Achilles the Cat’s Prediction for Sweden v. Switzerland

WEBWIRE

On 3 July 2018, in the State Hermitage’s Hall of the Bosporan Kingdom, by the ancient statue of a lion, Achilles the Hermitage cat predicted the winner of the match between Sweden and Switzerland.

The prediction took place in a tense atmosphere as the two teams are reckoned to have practically equal chances. In a poll on Achilles official Instagram account @Achillcat, opinions were divided with 58 of his subscribers favouring Sweden, while 50 support Switzerland. Achilles himself chose the bowl with the Swiss flag.

This time the second bowl was left, in the event that Achilles might move to it after his final choice. That would be a suggestion of a possible win from a penalty kick. In the knock-out stages, if no winner emerges after the teams have played extra time, then the result is decided by a series of penalties. Achilles did show an interest in the second bowl…

We hope that the nereids riding hippocampi to bring Achilles armour and weapons on the nearby sarcophagus, as well as the statue of the lion will give Achilles support and inspiration.

Achilles the Hermitage cat is predicting the outcome only of those 2018 World Cup matches that are held in St Petersburg. The plan now is for him to foretell the result of one semi-final on 10 July and the match for third place on 14 July.
