NFI named to Food Logistics’ 2018 Top Green Providers List

Cherry Hill, NJ – WEBWIRE

NFI, a leading supply chain solutions provider, was recently named to Food Logistics’ Top Green Providers List for 2018. Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership enhances sustainability within the food and beverage industry. NFI has been recognized as a Top Green Provider every year since 2013.

“Social responsibility is a core company principle here at NFI and we continuously explore innovative ways to support customers with sustainable operations,” said Sid Brown, CEO of NFI. “Aiming to lower our environmental footprint through fuel economy improvement, alternative fuels, and green facilities, NFI has made sustainability a part of everyday functions.”

NFI administers ongoing tests that focus on key performance indicators like MPG and the EPA’s eight SmartWay emissions metrics, and has been recognized as a three-time award-winning EPA SmartWay partner and SmartWay High Performer. To further improve green initiatives, NFI uses battery powered Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) and is currently running electric yard horse demonstration units from two different manufacturers to test viability. NFI is also working on the development of class 8 battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. To aid in decreasing fuel usage, NFI trucks are outfitted with AirTabs, trailer skirts, and speed limiters. Additionally, NFI runs one of the largest and cleanest drayage fleets in Southern California.

Sustainability efforts are also in place within NFI’s 41.5 million sq. ft. of warehousing and distribution operations, utilizing electric and propane powered forklifts, lithium battery fork lift demonstration units, and an extensive recycling program. NFI’s headquarters operates solely on solar power, eliminating 91,130,508 pounds of CO2.

“The agricultural sector and food supply chains at large have long recognized the importance of environmental stewardship for long-term sustainability in both business and for future food production globally,” said Lara L. Sowinski, Editorial Director of Food Logistics.

In addition to the food and beverage industries, NFI offers extensive experience providing supply chain solutions across a variety of sectors including retail, consumer packaged goods, and manufacturing. The company’s integrated suite of services spans dedicated transportation, distribution, transportation management, brokerage, port drayage, intermodal, global logistics, and real estate.
