ADAC GT Masters: double podium success for the BMW M6 GT3 at Spielberg.
It was a successful race weekend in a breathtaking setting during which the BMW M6 GT3 helped BMW Team Schnitzer to two podium finishes in the ADAC GT Masters. On the third race weekend of the season, at Spielberg (AUT), Mikkel Jensen (DEN) and Timo Scheider (GER) claimed second place in Saturday’s race, driving the #42 BMW M6 GT3. Dennis Marschall (GER) and Victor Bouveng (SWE) were close behind in the #43 BMW M6 GT3. The BMW M6 GT3 had already hinted at its potential during qualifying at the Red Bull Ring when BMW Motorsport Juniors Jensen and Marschall laid the foundations for success, securing second and fourth positions. Second place overall also meant that Jensen claimed victory in the Junior standings. “I am delighted with second overall on Saturday,” said Jensen. “I think that was the best we could have achieved. However, I am really happy for the whole team, as everyone did a fantastic job and more than earned the two podium finishes.”

Like Jensen, Marschall is competing in the ADAC GT Masters for the first time this season and third place represented his best result to date. “The first two race weekends didn’t go too well for us, so I am even more pleased with the third place on Saturday,” said Marschall. “That is a really good result, not just for me but for the whole team. The second half of the race seemed to last an eternity so we were massively relieved when Victor crossed the finishing line.”

The Scheider/Jensen duo also put on an impressive display in the second race on Sunday. Having started the race from 13th position, Scheider’s chase in the rain saw him climb to fifth before handing over the cockpit to Jensen. The Danish driver gained one more position but a retrospective penalty was applied after the race to push them back to tenth overall. The Bouveng/Marschall duo finished 28th on Sunday.

Also competing at Spielbergwas  the MRS GT Racing team’s #14 BMW M6 GT3. After some bad luck in Saturday’s race saw them finish 33rd, Jens Klingmann (GER) and local hero Christopher Zöchling (AUT) crossed the line in seventh position on Sunday. The fourth race weekend in the ADAC GT Masters takes place from 3rd to 5th August at the Nürburgring (DE).

International GT Open: BMW Team Teo Martín wins at Spa-Francorchamps.

The BMW Team Téo Martin celebrated a second win of the season in the International GT Open. At the legendary circuit at Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), Fran Rueda (ESP) and Andrés Saravia (GTM) were first to cross the finishing line in the #47 BMW M6 GT3. The duo had started the race from pole position. They moved up to second place in the drivers’ standings thanks to the win, as well as a fifth-place finish in the first race on Saturday. Their team-mates Lourenço Beirão da Veiga (POR) and Juan Cruz Álvarez (ESP) had to retire early from Saturday’s race in the #3 car but then secured seventh place in the final race of the weekend. In the Am class, Marcio Basso (BRA) and Thiago Marques (BRA), in the BMW Team Teo Martín #7 BMW M6 GT3, finished second on Saturday to reach the podium. They started the second race from pole position but were forced to retire early after an incident. BMW Team Teo Martín is currently in first place in the International GT Open team standings.

DTM driver Joel Eriksson (SWE) also gave a top performance. The BMW works driver was competing for Senkyr Motorsport at Spa-Francorchamps. Eriksson shared the #17 BMW M6 GT3 cockpit with Slovakia’s Richard Gonda. The duo finished fourth on Saturday, just missing out on the podium, however they reached the rostrum on Sunday after securing second place.

British GT Championship: BMW M4 GT4 wins at Silverstone.

The legendary circuit at Silverstone (GBR) was the setting for the sixth race of the British GT Championship season. The venerable ‘Home of British Motor Racing’ proved to be a happy hunting ground for the BMW M4 GT4. Aleksander Schjerpen (NOR) and Jack Mitchell (GBR) claimed victory in the GT4 category in the three-hour race. After 77 laps, the duo crossed the finishing line first to win in the #43 BMW M4 GT4. This marked the second success of the 2018 season for the Century Motorsport team, after victory at Snetterton (GBR) at the end of May. The winners of that race, Ben Tuck (GBR) and Ben Green (GBR), finished in fifth position at Silverstone. The next race weekend in the British GT Championship takes place on 21st and 22nd July at Spa-Francorchamps (BEL).

Double success for the BMW 125i M Sport at Oulton Park.

The BMW 125i M Sport won two out of three races in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Oulton Park (GBR). In the second race on Sunday, Colin Turkington (GBR) celebrated his first win of the season. In the final race, the West Surrey Racing (WSR) drivers put the pedal to the metal and claimed a top-three lock-out. This time it was Rob Collard (GBR) who topped the podium. Andrew Jordan (GBR) and Turkington followed, in second and third. The opening race of the Oulton Park weekend was also a success for WSR in which Jordan celebrated third place, Turkington finished in sixth position and Collard (GBR) was ninth. While Turkington claimed victory in the second race, Jordan claimed fourth place and Collard crossed the line in sixth.

Italian GT Championship: Bruno Spengler competing at Misano.
