FIPADOC Appoints Christine Camdessus as new Executive Director

In connection with FIPA’s shifting focus on documentaries, thus turning FIPA into FIPADOC from 2019 on, the board of directors welcomed Christine Camdessus as new executive director and highlighted the role of the documentary genre in a statement: “2019 opens a new chapter for FIPADOC, and it is with great enthusiasm that we welcome Christine Camdessus into this celebration of both documentary films and the vision of the world that documentary filmmakers offer us”.

In a first reaction to the board’s approval of the new position, Christine Camdessus stated: “I have supported this festival ever since its very first edition in Cannes, and I have since had the pleasure to get involved in the various aspects of documentary films. I am pleased to join the FIPADOC team and hope to help in the renewal of this great annual meeting that highlights documentary films, their authors, and all those involved".

After studying law, Christine Camdessus was the deputy director at Gaumont Télévision from 1994 to 1999. She then headed the Berlin NIPKOW jury, and managed the Master Européen de Management Audiovisuel (MEGA-MBS), from 2000 to 2011. In 2001 she created ALEGRIA, a production company that worked on films such as The Russian Newspaper Murders, The House of Saud, Hammer and Tickle, Pakistan Zindabad, Divided Korea, Pop goes Islam, 5 Broken Cameras, Erdogan, the making of a sultan, When the Guns Go Silent, as well as The Wonderful Kingdom of Papa Alaev. She is a member of the EDN and the EFA.

From 2014 to 2018, with Marie Hélène Ranc, she headed the USPA Commission Documentaire, which lead her to actively follow the reform of the Fond de Soutien Audiovisuel for documentaries and the defence of documentary filmmakers in their relationships with distributors as well as French and European institutions.

With FIPA evolving into FIPADOC, the festival will be turned into an international event exclusively dedicated to documentary films. The main objective will be to establish FIPADOC as one of Europe’s leading festivals for international documentary films in all their various forms. Apart from being a showcase for outstanding documentaries produced for broadcasters worldwide, FIPADOC will also provide a platform for presenting visions of the world through all formats, from short films to documentary series. It will be aimed at professionals as well as audiences at large who are showing a growing interest in the genre.

FIPADOC will be held in Biarritz, from 22 - 27 January 2019. The festival’s main guidelines will be made available on 26 June 2018 at Sunny Side of the Doc in La Rochelle.
