EMLab P&K Expert to Present at the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s Conference and Exposition.
EMLab P&K’s Dr. Michael Berg to speak on Legionella Detection at the AIHce Conference in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Berg will summarize traditional culture methods, which are considered to be the gold standard for the detection of Legionella bacteria; though at times these methods present difficulites when faster processing is necessary.
EMLab P&K, a TestAmerica company and a leading commercial indoor air quality (IAQ) laboratory in North America, will be participating in the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s Conference and Exposition (AIHce) next weekin Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Presenting at this year’s conference, EMLab P&K’s Laboratory Director, Dr. Michael Berg, will be discussing the topic, Rapid Systems for the Detection of Legionella Bacteria. Dr. Berg will summarize traditional culture methods, which are considered to be the gold standard for the detection of Legionella bacteria; though at times these methods present difficulties when faster processing is necessary. Alternative methods with shorter turnaround times, such as antibody and DNA based methods, are available. Dr. Berg will examine in detail how these newer methods have proven to be successful in fast detection during outbreak situations.
Dr. Michael Berg joined EMLab P&K in 2005 and worked as the Department Manager and Technical Director before taking the position of Regional Director. He holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. Dr. Berg researched plant pathology and plant genetics as a postdoctoral fellow at Oklahoma State University. He also worked in fungicide research for BASF in Germany. Dr. Berg also authors technical newsletters in the Environmental Reporter and speaks at workshops and meetings for the IAQA and other industry organizations.
