Oxford STAR launches in India

WEBWIRE

We are happy to announce that OUP India launched a new assessment solution, Oxford STAR, at an event in Chennai, which was attended by nearly 50 local schools as well as Mr. T. Udhayachandran, Indian Administrative Service Officer and Secretary of School Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.

STAR (Standardized Test for Assessment and Review) is designed to help students, teachers, parents, and school administrators profile student personality, scholastic ability, competencies, and skills. Covering English, Maths, Science, and Personal and Social Competence, STAR accelerates students’ progress by providing detailed information on any learning gaps along with suggestions for remedial action, tailored to each student’s specific needs. It also empowers teachers and school administrators to fine-tune their processes with the help of a flexible reporting system.

Speaking at the event, OUP’s Chief Executive Nigel Portwood commented: ‘We know that every student has different strengths, and responds to learning in different ways. Oxford STAR will provide educators with a better understanding of each student’s progress, so they can adapt and enhance their teaching methods, and improve learning outcomes.’

Sonu Nayyar, Head, Department of English, DPS Mathura, reported: ‘Assessment has always been a challenging factor in a mixed ability classroom. The assessment model for schools developed by Oxford University Press reflects the exhaustive contribution of the experts. The assessment solution proposed in this product is flexible with respect to the child’s level of performance.’
