The Hit Musical “Mariachi Girl” in Santa Barbara at The Luke Theatre on June 2nd

Following up the successful productions of “El Bracero” and “¡Ay Chihuahua!,” Ánimo Theatre Company will stage the hit musical “Mariachi Girl” on on June 2, at 7:30 PM at the Marjorie Luke Theatre in Santa Barbara.

“Mariachi Girl” is written by Roxanne Schroeder-Arce with music and lyrics by Héctor Martínez Morales. The musical follows a young girl’s dream of following in her father’s footsteps to become a Mariachi, but runs counter to his traditional, patriarchal roots.  Told through the eyes of a young girl, the musical explores cultural stereotypes and assimilation in the United States.  It is a heartwarming story that celebrates cultural identity and promotes a positive self-image for young women.

The musical stars Estefani Lopez, a young talent from Riverside who showcased her talents on Telemundo’s La Voz-Kids and Estrella TV’s Tengo Talento and features music by Mariachi Aguilas de J. Carlos Ozuna - one of the top Mariachi in Southern California. 
 
ÀNIMO Theatre Company brings untold stories to promote awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures.  Shows such as “El Bracero” and “¡Ay Chihuahua!,” and now “Mariachi Girl” share encouraging stories of the sacrifices and dreams of immigrants.  “Mariachi Girl” is the third production for ÁNIMO Theatre and is directed by Miguel Orozco with musical direction by J. Carlos Ozuna. This event is supported in part by The Marjorie Luke Theatre’s Dreier Family Rent Subsidy Fund.
