Alexandre Dumas’s “The Three Musketeers” has spawned two sequels: “Twenty Years After” and “The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later.” However, none has been shown about the events that transpired between the two books. Novelist and scientist Nikolay Kharin fills in the gaps in his own book The Three Musketeers Again II: D’Artagnan in Bastille.”

In the book, which is the sequel to Kharin’s “The Three Musketeers Again,” central character D’Artagnan finds himself locked in a cell in Bastille, no thanks to his previous adventures. With their friend imprisoned, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis head down to France’s darkest jail to set their friend free from prison.

Kharin’s own spin of the classic enables readers to once again encounter Dumas’s beloved characters. This time, however, they’ll find them in a new adventure. Despite the new plotlines, Kharin’s story retains the spirit of the original writing.

“The Three Musketeers Again II” was displayed in LitFire Publishing’s booth at the ALA Midwinter Meeting and Exhibits 2018. The event, hosted by the American Library Association, gathers more than 10,000 visitors to participate in around 2,400 activities every year. It was held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado, from February 9 to 13.

About the Author

Nikolay Kharin has released some of his novels and short stories in Bulgaria, Russia, and the United States. The scientist and novelist is highly interested in seventeenth- to nineteenth-century American and European histories. He is a father of one and currently lives in Colorado with his family.
