Following the successful introduction on the Italian market, Vion will also offer its premium ham Robusto to dried ham producers in Spain. Robusto ham is distinguished by its weight, colour, fat layer, intramuscular fat, shape and consistency. The exceptionally high quality of the ham and its origin from the Good Farming Balance supply chain concept are important selling points.

Vion will present the Robusto ham to Spanish dried ham producers during Alimentaria, the largest food trade fair in Spain, which will take place in Barcelona from 16 to 19 April this year.

Market demand
In Spain, there is a demand for hams that are suitable as raw material for the production of Serrano, the well-known Spanish dried ham. There is an increasing demand for Serrano ham, both nationally and internationally. In order to meet this demand, Spanish ham curers are increasingly looking for high-quality raw materials. Vion is responding to this with the introduction of Robusto ham.

Distinctive
Vion will offer the ham as a premium product to a select group of dried ham producers in Spain. Maiko van der Meer, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) within Vion Pork, sees great potential on the Spanish market. “Our Robusto stamp stands for the highest quality. The Robusto hams are the perfect raw material for the high-end segment of the Spanish dried ham industry, which focuses on Serrano ham. The Robusto hams are specially selected by Vion’s experts and are certified for various international markets.”

Good Farming Balance
Besides this, an important advantage is that the Robusto hams come from a trusted supply chain: the Good Farming Balance programme Vion introduced last year. In this programme, pig farmers opt for a special delivery module. The Robusto hams come from the modules in which the pigs delivered are heavier, producing the highest quality (fatty) hams. Following a stringent internal selection process, Vion Pork supplies the hams to Spanish customers.
