Los Angeles, California, USA – WEBWIRE

“Who are you?” Again, in that gentle, lilting voice, My heart stops. Tears are stinging my eyes. More than anything I want to pick him up, hug him, keep him as my own.”

Israeli-American author Batya Casper offers perspectives on the conflict in her historical novel.

“Israela” presents the lives of three women living in Israel, each embroiled in the conflict in her own way. Journalist Ratiba marries an Arab and moves with him to his village thereby relinquishing family and friends. Her sister Orit feels betrayed by Ratiba and exacts revenge that exceeds her worst intentions. Elisheva tends to the casualties of the Second Intifada.
“Israela” demonstrates the devastating and long-term impact that war has on individuals.

What is it like to live under almost constant hostilities? What happens to a nation that sends its children off to war from generation to generation with no end in sight?

“Israela” will be on display at the 2018 Frankfurt International Book Fair which will be held on October 10, 2018.

About the Author:

Batya Casper: “I was born in Britain, moved to Israel—like Israela’s character Elisheva— the day the Israeli ’56 war broke out, and grew to adulthood in Jerusalem. My BA is in English literature; my Masters and Ph.D. in theater Arts from UCLA. As a director and teacher of theater, I was trained to manipulate conflict for dramatic effect. What a glib endeavor that is, I tell myself, compared to the blood and tears of real life. Since childhood, I’ve watched friends and family struggle, question, sacrifice their children to the Israel Arab conflict. I watch as parents send their children off to war, from generation to generation, with no end in sight.”
