While anticipating the tension of World War II, the United States Army Air Corps worked on a new bomber plane with multiple engines that would succeed the outdated Martin B-10. Their efforts gave birth to the bigger B-17 bomber planes, otherwise known as Flying Fortresses.

While anticipating the tension of World War II, the United States Army Air Corps worked on a new bomber plane with multiple engines that would succeed the outdated Martin B-10. Their efforts gave birth to the bigger B-17 bomber planes, otherwise known as Flying Fortresses. Mark Farina’s Casey And The Flying Fortress tells the story of one of its pilots.

The biography centers on Chicago native Casimir “Casey” Paulinski and his journey to becoming B-17 copilot. It covers his training and missions of his ten-man crew over the skies of Europe. It also documents their time as prisoners of war in Nazi camps and their postwar lives and discoveries.

As Paulinski’s son-in-law, Mark Farina wanted to share details about his late father-in-law that surviving crew and family members did not know of. In a five-star review of the biography, Amazon customer Dana Lee, who fancies true war stories, described it as “emotional, gratifying, and cathartic to the families and surviving crew members.”

“Casey And The Flying Fortress” was displayed in LitFire Publishing’s booth at the Tucson Festival of Books 2018. It was held at the University of Arizona campus from March 10 to 11.
