Hopes and Dreams of a Catholic Woman in an Interfaith Marriage
A spiritual journey seeking for God’s guidance every step of the way
“This book is so much more than a memoir. Carmen’s thoughtful intelligence and exceptional education shine through every word, and if you’re a woman who has ever struggled with the conflicting demands of finding your niche in the world while helping your family members find theirs, you will relate to Carmen’s writing on a visceral level”
With 1.2 billion followers, Roman Catholicism is the world’s largest Christian denomination, and yet, it is one of the most misunderstood religions. In an effort to answer some questions about the Catholic Church, El Salvador–born Carmen Hartono tells her story in “Chronicles of a Catholic Housewife: Forty Years toward the Promised Land.”
Hartono’s first book and memoir follows her 40-year journey searching for meaning in everyday existence. Raised a Roman Catholic from El Salvador, the author married a man from Indonesia with Muslim values. Through her life experiences and through great joy and unbearable sorrow, Carmen becomes aware of God’s deep and loving revelations.

Carmen’s thoughtful intelligence and exceptional education shine through every word, and if you’re a woman who has ever struggled with the conflicting demands of finding your niche in the world while helping your family members find theirs, you will relate to Carmen’s writing on a visceral level,” Hartono’s editor, Janet, says.
“The Chronicles of a Catholic Housewife: Forty Years toward the Promised Land” was one of the featured books during the annual Tucson Festival of Books from March 10 to 11.
