Action-packed, suspenseful, and inspiring! Truly recommend for all thriller fans and Christian readers.

Engineer Jim Hawk adds writing to his resumé. He published his debut novel, a thriller written in the first person titled “And I Wanted to Be a Boat Bum” (Christian Faith Publishing, 2017).

More than just a thriller, “And I Wanted to Be a Boat Bum” is a story of faith and renewal. Although faith is the central theme of the story, readers who eschew faith expressions will love to read the novel for its tightly woven plot that simmers with action and suspense.

The book’s back cover summary provides readers with a character backstory and the premise for an action-packed, faith-filled read. “Let me introduce myself. My name is Gore Lyle. I’m a six-foot-two-inch, two-hundred-pound (of mostly muscle) ex-Green Beret, ex-cop, undercover SPUTF (Special Police Undercover Terrorism Force) agent. I also am independently wealthy thanks to a mob chief. Did I mention the mob would probably like to take me out? I say probably because I don’t talk to them about that subject. When I interact with the mob, it usually involves a gun and little talk.

“This all sounds cut-and-dried, but life is never cut-and-dried. I always carry bad memories of Green Beret missions that went wrong where a lot of killing was involved. I was a different brutal person back then. Then, I found God. However, that old Gore is always there in the background like a bad dream. And yet, working in a dangerous occupation, that bad Gore comes in handy, at times, but must be kept in check most of the time. Only crying out to God and my weird sense of humor helps. What a quandary, for a Christian—You can only cover so much up with humor. Welcome to my life.”

This awe-inspiring and exciting thriller is highly recommended for readers who love thrillers that emphasize Christian values.

Jim Hawk’s “And I Wanted to Be a Boat Bum” will be on display at the upcoming 2018 BookExpo New Title Showcase on May 30, 2018.

About the Author:

“And I Wanted To Be A Boat Bum” is the creation of published author, Jim Hawk, an electronics and computer engineer who retired from the Army Civil Service. His early years working for the army included work for the Army Security Agency, the now defunct Army super-secret three-letter agency. Although still a church elder, he has since retired from ten years as a church administrator. He is somewhat of an exercise nut and a backyard mechanic who spent more than twelve years of his life practicing kenpo, hapkido, taekwondo, and boxing. He may have shot, and even own, some of the guns depicted in his books. He is now enjoying writing Gore’s next adventure.
