thyssenkrupp adds to Elevator board

WEBWIRE

The thyssenkrupp Elevator Technology business area has added a new member to its board. Peter Walker took up the new position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) on February 1, 2018. Walker has been Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Asia Pacific business unit since 2005, and as business area COO will now help further improve the operating performance of the global elevator and escalator business. To this end he will have global responsibility for products, production and services.

“Below business area board level the introduction of a COO at Elevator Technology has proved successful since 2015. With Peter Walker we will further innovate and transform the industry, while improving the efficiency of business operations. This demands additional management capacity,” says Andreas Schierenbeck, CEO thyssenkrupp Elevator.

As BA board member Walker will play a key role in simplifying the complex processes in the elevator and escalator business and standardizing thyssenkrupp’s product portfolio. This will involve for example reducing the number of elevator types. For escalators, too, the plan is to reduce the number of different models. At the same time thyssenkrupp Elevator Technology will safeguard its competitiveness at every single site.

Walker grew up in Sydney, studied economics and electrical engineering, and joined the company in March 1995. He was in charge of business in Australia and New Zealand, from 1997 as CEO. Since 2003 Walker has significantly expanded business in the Asia Pacific region, first as COO and from 2005 as CEO.
