A New Collaboration for Richer, Connected, and Reusable Metadata in Scholarly Communications
There is a real difference between ‘valid metadata’ and ‘quality metadata. Good metadata for researchers is quite different and more than just the valid copyright metadata. It is about quality, scope, and usability; this group aims to educate and provide guidance across all players in the scholarly publishing community.
Cenveo Publisher Services, a division of Cenveo, Inc. (NASDAQ: CVO), has joined the Metadata 2020 initiative with the goal of improving the quality and interoperability of metadata between publishers, aggregators, service providers, librarians, funders and researchers. Representatives from publishing service providers, platforms, software companies, standards organizations, copyright licensing services and the open access community formed the Service Provider and Platform Group to discuss and document the metadata workflow and create clear guidelines for improvement.
Metadata is the backbone of content distribution and discovery. Parsing the unique metadata needs of the community and documenting the holistic publishing landscape will contribute to a useful and meaningful metadata ecosystem.
