The story follows Icy and his journey of growth. The usually joyful snowflake finds himself in a lonely place as more snow falls on top of him, which continues for two hundred years.

Growth is not a journey filled with sunshine and rainbows. The challenges life throws at people serve as lessons that can greatly contribute to maturity. Larry Friend shows this in his debut work, Icy the Iceberg.

The story follows Icy and his journey of growth. The usually joyful snowflake finds himself in a lonely place as more snow falls on top of him, which continues for two hundred years. Luckily, his loneliness begins to evaporate when the glacier he belongs to drifts apart, meeting several animals on his journey through the ocean. His sadness returns as he begins to melt until he becomes a snowflake once again.

Friend’s story is not only a heartwarming read, but also an informative one for kids. A Kirkus reviewer commented that the book “introduces children to some basic scientific concepts.” An Amazon customer also took notice of this, appreciating how it managed to explain the concepts of snow formation, condensation, and evaporation in a simple manner. Friend hopes that readers, especially little children, will enjoy and appreciate Icy’s story of growth.

Copies of Icy the Iceberg are available in selected online bookstores. This book was featured in LitFire Publishing’s booth at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2017; the event ran from October 11 to 15.
