SSH Tectia Secures All File Transfers and Terminal Connections Throughout the Library Network

SSH Communications Security (HEX:SSH1V), a world-leading provider of enterprise security solutions and end-to-end communications security, and the original developer of the Secure Shell protocol, today announced that the Helsinki City Library has chosen SSH Tectia for securing connections on all workstations in its public library workstation network. With the deployment of the solution, the library’s 500,000 customers in the greater Helsinki area can safely access network services from public customer workstations at the main and branch libraries by using their library card and assigned password for secure login.

Helsinki City Library was looking for a replacement of an existing FTP-based (File Transfer Protocol) file transfer product, which was installed on all of its 350 public Windows-based customer workstations. The goal of the project was to find a security solution that would ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of both file transfers and terminal connections throughout the workstation network.

During August, after rigorous technical product evaluation, Helsinki City Library deployed SSH Tectia Client on customer workstations in all of its branch networks. The SSH Tectia solution was provided by a local system integrator partner, Fujitsu Services Oy. At a later stage, Helsinki City Library is planning to support national ID cards, issued by the Finnish Population Register Centre, for stronger user authentication when accessing the library services. SSH Tectia enables the planned integration with its broad support for third-party authentication systems including smart card –based PKI (Public-Key Infrastructure).

“As a significant provider of a public network access through workstations, Helsinki City Library strives for high-quality customer service, placing special emphasis on data security of the users,” says Olli Savonen, IT manager, Helsinki City Library. “Versatility and ease of maintenance were among the key reasons why we chose SSH Tectia for securing the workstation network.”

”Helsinki City Library has been a global pioneer in providing electronic library services based on Internet technologies,” says Arto Vainio, CEO of SSH Communications Security Corp. “We believe that SSH Tectia is a perfect match for the library’s sophisticated applications, ensuring security of data in transit throughout the library network.”
