Author Gary Mollica published a book, entitled Afterworld: Escaping the Tyranny. It was displayed at the 2016 AJC Decatur Book Festival, the largest independent book festival in the United States. The event was held from September 2 to 4, at 101 E. Court Square in Decatur, Georgia.

The science fiction novel is set in a devastated earth as a result of nuclear war. Several new societies emerge, two of which are suspended in the atmosphere, segregated from each other. Citizens are under the control of Committees who feel they know the residents’ best interests.

The remnants belonging in the atmospheric communities remain unaware of the control and power of their authoritative rulers until Air Force defense pilot Joe and computer genius Derek, two members of one social order, start looking for answers. The two men are called to promote their society upon the time that they are chosen. The Committee require the two men to mate with Pam and Dawn, who are citizens of a similar civilization. The four are gathered together, void of emotions, to create the perfect child; the child will then be given to qualified Protectorates in order to be taught how to live and die to further their society. However, something forbidden by their culture happens.

Afterworld: Escaping the Tyranny is an exciting tale filled with friendship, romance, and courage.
