TestAmerica to Present Ask The Expert Webinar on Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)

Knoxville, TN – WEBWIRE

TestAmerica, the leader in environmental testing, announced this week the newest installment in its groundbreaking Ask the Expert webinar series.  The webinar, led by TestAmerica expert Eric Redman, will be presented in two parts and is entitled Total PCB and Congener Analysis – Method Selection and Data Utilization.

Part one of the series, to be presented on July 19 at 1:30 PM EST, will address the methods available for the determination of Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in environmental samples.  PCBs are one of the most frequently determined environmental parameters, yet considerable confusion may still exist regarding appropriate analytical methodologies.  Historical methods using GC/ECD instrumentation (8082) have generally determined PCBs as Aroclors, while methods using GC/MS or HRGC/HRMS instrumentation (1668) are capable of selective determination of PCB Homologues and comprehensive determination of PCB Congeners.  Mr. Redman will compare and contrast the various methods available for PCB analysis, as well as review potential issues associated with method selection, data interpretation and utilization, and current regulatory oversight.

Part two of the webinar will air live on August 16 at 1:30 PM EST.  Building upon the material offered in part one of the series, Mr. Redman will continue to discuss PCB method selection and will highlight items that can affect final data quality, including the potential for positive or negative bias in reported results. Additionally, the impact of artifacts and ambient background levels on field collection and laboratory procedures will be reviewed.

Mr. Eric Redman has over 30 years of experience in the environmental testing industry, specializing in the application of analytical chemistry to environmental problems. As TestAmerica’s Corporate Director of Technical Services, Mr. Redman’s duties include implementing technical best practices, development and improvement of analytical methods, and assisting customers with analytical challenges. Mr. Redman earned a BS in Chemistry and Physics from California State University and a MS degree in Chemical Physics from the University of California-Riverside.
