TestAmerica Announces DoD ELAP and QSM Webinar

Knoxville, TN – WEBWIRE

TestAmerica, the leader in environmental testing, is pleased to present the latest installment of its Ask the Expert webinar series, DoD ELAP and the QSM – A Laboratory Perspective. The webinar, led by TestAmerica Quality Compliance Director, Larry Penfold, will air live on Tuesday, June 21 at 1:30 P.M. EDT.

Established in 2009, the Department of Defense Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (DoD ELAP), serves as the basis for laboratories to demonstrate conformance to various standards as described in the DoD Quality Systems Manual (QSM) for environmental laboratories.  From the perspective of the laboratory, the development of ELAP and the QSM were both successful and necessary to ensure the creation of consistent and legally defensible data for DoD sites.

Challenges arose as the program matured and new versions of the QSM were released.  Currently, many environmental labs participating in the program must offer analyses conforming to both the current version of the QSM (5.0), and past versions to meet the needs of legacy sites.  The webinar will discuss the status of ELAP and QSM version 5.0, as well as strategies, from the laboratory’s perspective, to ensure success, including the development of a technical approach that fits the objectives of the project.  Mr. Penfold will also provide information concerning expected updates to the QSM in the anticipated update 5.1.

Mr. Larry Penfold has more than forty years’ experience in the environmental field, focusing much of his career on DoD and Department of Energy (DoE) projects.  In his current position, he is responsible for quality assurance oversight at TestAmerica, monitoring and communicating DoD requirements throughout the TestAmerica network, and developing corporate tools for ensuring and improving compliance.  He is a frequent presenter at industry conferences, and is a member of The NELAC Institute (TNI) Radiochemistry Expert Committee.

TestAmerica’s Ask the Expert program provides unmatched access to a nationally recognized panel of more than 30 experts in the environmental field.  For more information on the program, or to register for the upcoming DoD ELAP and the QSM – A Laboratory Perspective webinar, please visit http://testamericainc.com/services/webinar_series/.
