As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn is a delightful read that one can take much from. It is an eloquent novel about a brother and a sister, and is highly recommended for any person going through similar rough times concerning a mental health problem.

Having to suddenly take care of a sick brother or sister, one can probably say it is a pre-assigned obligation. Yes, a professional nurse or caretaker will do, but there’s nothing like the love and care a sibling can provide that no one else can quite emulate. The new book, As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn, by Rosalie H. Contino, provides just the lessons all readers can learn from.

In this memoir, we follow the real life story and memories of the author. She recalls the years with her 61-year old brother Bob, who suffered with schizophrenia, and was forced to retire shortly after when the illness took a toll for the worst. With both of their parents having passed, Rosalie honors her promise to take care of Bob. Despite her years of frustration with her brother’s ill-temperedness, Rosalie retells her experiences warmly while coming to a number of realizations.

Bob’s condition continued to grow worse as the years went on, and Rosalie, having faced them with a brave heart, now understands why she had to go through the challenges and is more than grateful for the time she shared with Bob. The story will move readers especially those going through the same ordeal with a loved one with a mental disorder. It’s not about caring for them, it’s caring for them genuinely.

When my brother retired, he was not a well person. Looking back, I’ve come to realize a number of lessons. Yes my brother was quite the work, but I wouldn’t trade my time with him for anything. Remembering him this way makes me feel warm and the book is my form of tribute,” states the author.
