At the age of nine, Collierville native Lydia Waldrop was heard singing by a family friend, who recommended that she enroll in professional vocal lessons. Now at the age of 14, the singer-songwriter is making her mark as a regular performer at festivals and special events in and around Western Tennessee.

Waldrop’s talent is evident in her vocals, but it’s her songwriting ability that is getting the attention of scouts and a rapidly emerging fan base.

“Most artists my age are singing covers and getting noticed through other people’s music,” said Waldrop. “I want to be different and use original songs to touch the hearts of others by relating to similar experiences in their own lives.”

Through the support of her family, Waldrop already has multiple songs published on iTunes and elsewhere, with another dozen or so awaiting to be recorded.

Waldrop’s music is not exclusive to original songs, however. She also enjoys covering artists such as Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert because they too tell stories and convey powerful messages.

Lydia first garnered attention at the age of 9, when she appeared on ABC in Nashville on Christmas morning. She has plans to stay busy during the summer and into the fall, with scheduled performances in and around Tennessee.

Her goal is to become a country music artist and plans to continue writing songs that inspire others.
