The Martial Arts Kid, is a coming of age movie which tells the story about a troubled Cleveland teenager, Robbie Oakes (Jansen Panettiere), who relocated to Cocoa Beach, Florida to live with his Aunt Cindy (Cynthia Rothrock) and Uncle Glen (Don “The Dragon” Wilson) after being arrested in Ohio. The film was directed by Michael Baumgarten and features martial arts choreography by James Lew and the Producers include Cheryl Sanders and James Wilson.

Robbie’s arrival in Cocoa Beach took a dramatic turn when he meets an attractive girl, Rina (Kathryn Newton).  Her bullish boyfriend, Bo (Matthew Ziff), decides to make Robbie’s life hell on earth. Robbie decides to learn martial arts from his Aunt and Uncle to change the course of his life.  In doing so he gains the confidence and skills to protect himself and Rina.

This film is not meant to be a badass action movie, but instead it’s a realistic, fascinating story for the whole family that goes beyond entertainment to make viewers think about martial arts and the awful experiences of bullying.  The producers hope that this anti-bullying film will help encourage others to take a stand when they see someone being bullied.  The movie was awarded five out of a possible five doves from the Dove Foundation for its quality and message.

“Less than 2% of the films requesting over $100K on Kickstarter were able to make their funding for projects, but The Martial Arts Kid raised $173.5K adding to its funding in order to shoot on location in Cocoa Beach, Florida.  After a successful festival run, The Martial Arts Kid walked away winning a hefty 10 awards. It was also named among the Best Action Films of 2015 along with Avengers: The Age of Ultron and The Hunger Games by the Dove Foundation. And was one of the Top Martial Arts Films by Budomate Magazine and Best Martial Arts Family Film by Action Martial Arts Magazine”, said producer James Wilson.

The Martial Arts Kid also had a successful theatrical run including the top markets across the United States through TUGG.com. The Martial Arts Kid is being sold internationally in multiple territories and has recently become available in the USA on DVD and Blue-Ray.
