Mental Illness: The Reality behind the Idealization

Mental illness is a reality that many people don’t see. Such was the experience of Michael Fortnam. In his book, Distorted Mind: Mental Illness Revealed, he opens up about his struggle with mental disease. Through his story, he hopes to help others overcome their own sickness and inform people about these invisible diseases. This eye-opening and empowering book was featured in the 2016 London Book Fair last April 12 to 14. The international events took place at the Olympia London.

Fortnam talks about his battle with severe depression, delusions, and manic episodes. For a long time, he thought that the isolation, emptiness, and confusion he felt were normal. Not until he went through a crisis and got arrested did he realize the truth about his condition. From then on, he began his journey to overcome the sickness that plagued him.
