An Epic Tale of Following One’s Heart’s Desire Shared in Frankfurt

How far will a man go to fulfill his dream? Book author Philip Groves brings to life a protagonist who boldly claims and turns his dream into reality. In Jiro’s Dream, this fictional character did everything he could to make his heart’s desire come true.

Jiro’s Dream is a historical fiction set during the World War II. It tells the story of a young Japanese boy, Jiro, who dreams of being a fighter pilot. With a sibling already in the navy, his family no longer concedes him to serve the emperor with further military obligations. With the help of an admiral, Jiro was sent to America on the pretext of doing a work-study program. As he blends in with Japanese/American community, he starts to make friends and eventually falls in love. He returns to Japan, living and fighting in air combat while seeking justice for the murder of his sweetheart by a gang of white kids.

Kirkus Review rated the book as one of the Best of 2012 books during its first release. Additionally, it testifies the downright greatness of the book through a comment, “Grooves’ debut historical novel, set in mid-20th-century Japan, is a well-tempered story of cultural dislocation, the ruin of war and faith in love… Lively, illuminatingly exotic and richly told tale of life during wartime.”

Filled with spontaneous insights into Japanese culture, the novel attracted a lot of readers, gained popularity, and was eventually awarded an honorable mention under the General Fiction category during the 9th Annual Hollywood Book Festival in 2014.

Created for a general audience, the book encourages readers to follow their heart’s ultimate desire. Also, it invites readers to look beyond the challenges that are along the way and to focus on their goals instead.

The book was featured at the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair held last October 14-18, 2015 at the Frankfurt Trade Fair grounds in Frankfurt, Germany.

Philip L. Groves is a graduate of University of Maryland. He lives in South Florida and works as a field technician, writer, salesman, and civil servant. Despite his varied interest, his deep love in automobiles and aviation continues. He also authored a non-fiction investment primer entitled Hard Cash.
