It illustrates the life of a fearless heroine who refused to be intimidated by mobsters or tainted by widespread government corruption.

The historical novel, A Twist of Lemon, by Rosalie Schwartz, follows the life of a fearless and ambitious lawyer, Mabel Walker Willebrandt. The incorruptible law enforcer is constantly tested in an era when powerful women were an anomaly in the legal system.

In 1923, Willebrandt achieved fame as Assistant Attorney General, prosecuting the country’s most notorious Prohibition violators. Despite her accomplishments, her career was stymied by her refusal to turn a blind eye on corrupt politicians in the illegal liquor trade. Corrupt Prohibition agents and other law enforcement officers hinder Mabel’s attempt to seize the criminals. With missing evidence impeding prosecutions, Mabel and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover create an undercover operation to ensnare the operatives.

A Twist of Lemon incorporates Southern California into the nation’s Prohibition narrative of smuggling, hijacking, and violence. It illustrates the life of a fearless heroine who refused to be intimidated by mobsters or tainted by widespread government corruption.

A Twist of Lemon was displayed at the 2015 Guadalajara International Book Fair, which was held in Guadalajara, Mexico last November 28 – December 6. The book, along with several promotional materials, were available during the fair.
