“This is really a story about the Hotel California. You know, the one where you can check out but never leave?”

Ashley Duncan, a beautiful Kansas farm girl, arrives in Hollywood like countless young women before her with aspirations of stardom and almost impossible odds. This is how the novel, “Palm Avenue,” begins, and it is the first book of a 3 part series that follows Ashley’s rise into super stardom and her gradual, but stark transformation. The book is now available in both paperback and digital formats

The books author, Rob Neighbors got the idea to write the book one afternoon after a phone call from a friend. “A friend called me up and said: ‘I know how you can make millions of dollars - just write a book like ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’’ I had heard the buzz about that book, so I bought it.  I tried to read ‘Fifty Shades,’ but couldn’t finish it. Not my cup of tea,” Neighbors said.

Neighbors then remembered that he had a an outline for a script he was once developing that might appeal to the same audience. It was about a young actress that breaks into Hollywood, and it was sexy, and had a strong female lead. Neighbors started writing the book using his old outline, and by the time he finished the first draft, the story had transformed dramatically.

In the novel, Ashley realizes early on that she will have to do whatever it takes to realize her dream, and that means using man after man as stepping stones to stardom. The plot thickens in “Palm Avenue,” when Ashley’s heartbroken arrives in Hollywood in a desperate attempt to get her back. He too falls into the trap of the Hotel California. He becomes another casualty to drugs, sex, and continuous sunshine.

“This is really a story about the Hotel California. You know, the one where you can check out but never leave? I think that song refers to all of these people who come to California seeking fame and riches, and then they can never go back to where they came from. They become addicted to the action and the pursuit of fame. Some check out and die of drug overdoses. Others sell out there ideals and their bodies,” Neighbors said.

Neighbors is currently working on the second book of the series, which he hope to have completed sometime next year. You may purchase the “Palm Avenue,” paperback on Amazon, or purchase the ebook at BookBaby, Amazon Kindle, and soon at iBooks, Barnes and Noble, and many other platforms.
