KCTS 9 Announces Renewed Partnership with PEMCO

Popular Golden Apple Awards program to continue in new digital, social and broadcast format as “Golden Apple Moments”

Seattle – WEBWIRE

KCTS 9 today announced a renewed partnership with PEMCO that will energize the public media station’s Golden Apple Awards program, transforming the venerated series into a new format for 2016.

In line with KCTS 9’s digital strategy that delivers content across multiple platforms, the new cross-domain, digital, social and broadcast series will include five individually produced “Golden Apple Moments.”  Each story will be featured online with supporting articles and resources. The series will be promoted via social channels including the educational community, and individual segments will be featured on KCTS 9 throughout the year.

The new direction for the program will focus less on complex statistics and benchmark results over time, and more on a teacher, a program, or a school’s inspiring idea, exploring why and how it is challenging the status quo and inspiring others. Innovative ideas that are replicable—that can be used as models or templates for other educators—will also be a focus of the program.

“You don’t have to be an educator to be inspired by innovation,” said Robert I. Dunlop, President and CEO of KCTS 9. “Passion and drive appeal to everyone, and we all share in seeing our next generation be more than the last. These stories will appeal to a broad audience—to parents seeking the best for their children, as well as to educators and organizations working to improve education outcomes and discover new blueprints for success for children in Washington state and around the country.”

“We’re excited to partner with KCTS 9 on a program that celebrates innovation in education,” said PEMCO President and CEO Stan McNaughton. “PEMCO celebrates the values that make the Pacific Northwest so unique, and these are profiles of educators who inspire us, who think a little differently and are reimagining the way we teach our young people.”

Since the first Golden Apple Awards in 1992, KCTS 9 has recognized and honored examples of exceptional teaching and educational innovation in Washington state. PEMCO has been a supporter of the Golden Apple Awards program since 1994.
