ABIH® Elects New Chair and Board of Director Members

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH®) administers the internationally recognized Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®) program.

The Board is pleased to have these new Directors who are dedicated to growing and maintaining the Certified Industrial Hygienist® program as the top occupational hygiene certification in the world.

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® is pleased to announce that Susan Ripple, CIH, has been selected as the new Chair of the Board of Directors. Mrs. Ripple has served on the Board since 2012.  She spent more than 29 years at The Dow Chemical Company where she ultimately was Manager for the Industrial Hygiene Expertise Center before opening her own industrial hygiene consulting business. She served on the AIHA WEEL and ERPG Committees for over 15 years and EPA’s AEGL Committee. Mrs. Ripple is an AIHA Fellow, is the 2013 AIHA Alice Hamilton Award recipient and is Vice Chair of AIHA’s Fellow Specialist Interest Group. She succeeds Nicole Greeson, CIH, who is rotating to the Board’s Past Chair role.
 
In addition to the appointment of a new Chair, three new Directors have also been elected to serve on the Board of Directors.  They include:

  • Jeffrey R. Miller, PhD, CIH, CSP - Dr. Miller is a Senior Scientist with Oak Ridge Associated Universities, a non-profit consortium of more than 120 doctoral granting universities. He is a project manager for occupational exposure and worker health studies, primarily of workers in the Department of Energy complex. He has a broad range of experience including 10 years with state and local public health agencies and 25 years working for private sector firms providing environment, safety, and health services to corporations and government agencies.


 
  • Dirk Yamamoto, PhD, CIH, CSP, PE -  Dr. Yamamoto is a retired US Air Force officer with an extensive background in industrial hygiene, environmental health, environmental protection, and radiation safety.  While on active duty, he last served as the director and assistant professor for the ABET-accredited industrial hygiene Master’s program at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.  Following his retirement, Dr. Yamamoto began working for STS Systems Integration (SSI), LLC, providing occupational and environmental health consultation support. 


 
  • Jackie Short (Public Member) - Jacqueline Short is a market research professional with over 30 years’ experience in the field. Following her positions as Director of Market Research at Ameritech and First Chicago, she established Monogram Market Research, a market research consulting practice to provide individualized market research service, focusing on the needs of businesses including packaged goods, retail, utilities, government and not-for-profit.
