The grand opening of CommonWealth One’s James Madison University branch office was held in conjunction with Madison Union’s Open House on Wed., Sept. 23, 2015, and it is already having an impact on the James Madison University community.

“The grand opening was well attended by younger James Madison University students, many of who participated in our Team Up and Win Sweepstakes promotion,” said Karyle Thornton, Chief Marketing Officer at CommonWealth One. Executives, board members, CommonWealth One staff, students and faculty, as well as many residents of the Harrisonburg community also attended the grand opening, which featured refreshments and giveaways. Students were eligible for various contests and drawings to win an iPad mini and several other cash prizes, as well as $100 bookstore gift cards. Special incentives were offered to students who opened an account on Sept. 23 or before Sept. 30, 2015.

CommonWealth One opened its first branch office on James Madison University’s campus in 1992, providing the products and services the educational community needed to navigate on-campus financial life, filling filled a void created when the bank that previously served students and faculty closed. Students especially appreciated having a convenient financial institution – and on-campus ATM – to make daily student life easier.

“CommonWealth One’s presence on James Madison University’s campus has come a long way since that first office in Gibbons Hall,” noted Thornton. “Through the years, CommonWealth One has demonstrated to the entire community the benefits of credit union membership,” she added.

This new James Madison University facility gives the Credit Union the opportunity to provide its members with an exceptional member experience using new technology-focused financial services and is an important milestone in CommonWealth One’s growth and expansion strategy.
