Introducing SmartFeed: The Digital Media Management Tool for Families
Company Launches Kickstarter to Build Version 1.0
SmartFeed, the tool designed to help parents better manage their kids’ digital media consumption, announced today that it has launched a Kickstarter campaign to build Version 1.0. Recognizing that digital media is everywhere and it impacts our kids mightily, SmartFeed is designed to help parents easily find and offer up inspiring and engaging media – apps, games, movies and more.
As any parent will tell you, managing the choices of different media on multiple devices for kids of varying ages and interests can be a major daily challenge. Parents are faced with constantly evolving technology, kids’ changing preferences and an abundance of disappointing content – often hyper-violent and overly sexualized. The default for many parents is to simply weed out the bad content and limit screentime. The SmartFeed team wants to enable parents to do more – to leverage the very powerful medium of digital media to find great content to positively influence kids.
“Media is increasingly pervasive in society today and certainly isn’t going away,” said Linsly Donnelly, Founder of SmartFeed. “We think parents need a tool that does more than just filter out the bad content, but instead finds the good stuff and conveniently serves it up – across all content formats and device types, with preferences set by child, media and device.”
The SmartFeed solution has four key components:
- Curate – Parents set dials and customize settings for each child, based on age, gender, values, interests, school curriculum, family dynamics and more.
- Deliver – Based on the dials parents set, SmartFeed delivers a regular “Family Packet” with new media recommendations by child. Parents select content and directly download to family devices and subscription services.
- Manage – Parents can access management and reporting tools to monitor what their kids are watching/playing and to set screentime limits.
- Connect – Parents can opt to connect with other like-minded families (based on anonymized profiles and aggregated feeds) to get recommended content and media management best practices.
Funds raised by the Kickstarter campaign will be utilized to build out the technology framework for SmartFeed Version 1.0, which will include the Curate and Connect components described above, and will be delivered in Fall 2015.
