Roanoke County Public Schools recognized more than 400 graduates from Neustar’s My Digital Life program, a digital education course designed to empower young people to be responsible technology users. Neustar, Inc. (NYSE: NSR), a trusted, neutral provider of real-time information services and analytics, joined forces with leading education technology company EverFi to bring My Digital Life to over 11,000 students across Virginia.

Students were honored by Roanoke County Superintendent Dr. Lorraine Lange, Pete Larkin, Chief of Staff for Congressman Goodlatte, and Hidden Valley High School Principal Rhonda Stegall. Select students ambassadors shared stories about what they learned from completing the course. Additionally, Neustar presented Hidden Valley High School with a $1,000 Technology Grant to support and grow their technology programs.

“Knowing how to use technology safely and effectively will be incredibly important for these students throughout high school, in college, and in their future careers,” said Neustar President and CEO Lisa Hook. “Neustar is proud to help today’s generation meet these challenges and be the digitally responsible citizens of the future.”

Developed by EverFi, My Digital Life is an interactive web-based course that combines the power of cutting-edge instructional design, rich media, and real-world simulations to educate teens about technology and careers using gaming and other interactive tools. The four-hour curriculum informs students on the “nuts and bolts” of how technology works, while placing them in virtual environments to tackle issues including privacy, security, cyberbullying, digital relationships, and the viral nature of the web.

“Today’s students have unprecedented access to the tools of the digital age and it is important for us to help them leverage technology in the best possible way,” said Superintendent Lange. “We are grateful for the partnership with Neustar that enables us to provide innovative resources and new opportunities to students in our district.”

The Center for Digital Education recently named Roanoke County Public Schools as one of the top digital Districts in the country. The school board’s 1:1 laptop initiative has provided students with access to industry-standard software for internships, online courses for dual-enrollment students, and real-time data and assessments, in addition to advanced technologies in the classroom such as drones equipped with HD cameras, robotics, and blueprint design tools and 3D printers. Since the program’s inception, over 12,000 students across Virginia have completed Neustar’s My Digital Life learning program.
