San Mateo County Fair’s Science and Education Programs Feature Kids Entertainment:
From Feeding Butterflies to Tesla Coils - Fair opens Saturday, June 6th and runs through June 14th. Early bird tickets are available until April 16th.
“Having engaging content for kids presented in a way that helps them learn is all part of the Fair’s mission and purpose in the community” said Senior VP & General Manager of the San Mateo County Event Center, Chris Carpenter.
San Mateo County Fair is further expanding upon its science and educational content focused towards children for a truly unique family experience.
A new science and educational exhibit, Butterfly Adventures, lets fairgoers feed butterflies, learn about their migration, habitat and characteristics of various species from a Butterfly Wrangler. The Fair added a technology department in 2011 that has been a hit with kids and parents alike. The Do It Yourself Science area includes Super Science with numerous games and puzzles for kids, App and video game classes, and “deconstruction stations” where children can dismantle and look into various high technology items such as printers, while learning how to put them back together.
The Fair actively engages with children and youth all through out the year. During the Fair there will be FREE hosted classroom tours, a Junior Fair Board, comprised of teenage Fair ambassadors who will teach senior citizens how to use Apps, a children’s Read 2 Ride program: For every 2 books read by children they receive 2 free carnival rides. The Fair mascot has a program: “Mateo’s Community Superheroes” in which every child that donates 20 hours of community service will receive 1 Fair admission ticket. Details for these programs are on the website.
“Having engaging content for kids presented in a way that helps them learn is all part of the Fair’s mission and purpose in the community” said Senior VP & General Manager of the San Mateo County Event Center, Chris Carpenter.
As with previous Fairs the traditional programs are still available: 9 Free Summer Concerts, carnival rides, Fair food, grounds acts, racing pigs, and live music all throughout the fairgrounds. Tickets are on sale now on the Fair website. Single tickets and season passes are available. Purchase before April 16th for early bird pricing.
