Lenovo Announces New CIO

Former head of strategy, Qingtong Zhou, and former CIO, Xiaoyan Wang, appointed to new roles

Beijing – WEBWIRE

Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) today announced the appointment of Qingtong Zhou, Lenovo’s head of strategy and planning, as the company’s new chief information officer (CIO). Zhou replaces Xiaoyan Wang, who becomes senior vice president of a newly created, yet-to-be-named, centralized services organization. Both positions will report directly to Lenovo Chairman and CEO, Yang Yuanqing.

In addition, Ken Wong, formerly vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific Emerging Markets region, has been named vice president, strategy and planning, succeeding Zhou. With Wong’s move, Lenovo’s Asia Pacific Emerging Markets (APEM) region and Asia Pacific Mature Markets (APMM) region will be combined into one organization, headed by Rod Lappin, currently vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific Mature markets. Wong will report to Yang, while Lappin, as president, Asia Pacific region, will continue to report to Lenovo Chief Operating Officer, Gianfranco Lanci.

In recent months, Lenovo has successfully launched smartphones and other consumer devices, as well as an expanded enterprise business across Asia Pacific, and combining the APEM and APEM regions will help ensure that the company continues to realize greater synergies of scale, increased operational efficiencies, and a portfolio balanced for profitability and growth.

These executive appointments are expected to help the company accelerate its transformation efforts following the recent acquisitions of Motorola Mobility and IBM’s x86 server business, and the formation of ShenQi, a new company in China established by Lenovo to focus on the mobile devices market. Through a dynamic 100 percent internet-centric business model, ShenQi will take the lead as Lenovo pursues new opportunities in the rapidly expanding Internet of Things (IoT) arena.
