American Red Cross Responds to Latest ProPublica Allegations

WEBWIRE

The American Red Cross never had any policy prohibiting work with Occupy Sandy. To the contrary, the Red Cross met with Occupy Sandy representatives within the first 7 days of the Sandy response at our New York headquarters and made visits to their sites in the affected neighborhoods. Moreover, we linked Occupy Sandy with our other response partners and provided them with meals and other supplies- to the point of providing them with an entire warehouse full of material in March 2013. That coordination continued well into the recovery phase of the disaster and helped make a successful response even stronger.

ProPublica continues with its deeply flawed reporting and, as they have done repeatedly, based their latest reports on unsubstantiated second and third hand hearsay and rumor.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
