Focus on the Family Hosts the Heart Gallery for Colorado’s Waiting Kids

Focus on the Family is hosting the annual Heart Gallery at the ministry’s Welcome Center. It features professional photographs of Colorado children in the foster care system awaiting adoption.

This marks the eighth time Focus has featured the Heart Gallery and comes at the beginning of National Adoption Month.

“Behind every photograph in this gallery is a child asking for a loving home,” said Kelly Rosati, vice president of Community Outreach and an adoptive mom of four. “Many of these kids live in foster homes, moving frequently and without a sense of permanence in their lives. We’re hoping that some of them will find ‘forever homes’ as a result of the Heart Gallery.”

Focus’ Wait No More Events Lead Thousands to Adopt

The Heart Gallery is just one way Focus is working to encourage more families to care for orphans. Through the ministry’s Wait No More events, more than 2,900 families have initiated adoption from foster care.

The ministry’s broader Adoption and Orphan Care Initiative continues to raise awareness among Christians of the need to be involved in foster care and adoption. In Colorado, there are approximately 300 waiting kids – and more than 3,000 churches in the state.

“To see the number of kids waiting for a home drop to zero is an achievable goal,” said Rosati. “If just one family in every 10 churches in Colorado chose adoption, it would make an incredible difference in the lives of these precious children.”

The ministry’s W.R.A.P. resource provides practical tips on how families can “wrap” around adoptive families and offer support in ways such as prayer, respite care and acts of service.

The Heart Gallery will be on display in the Focus on the Family Welcome Center from Nov. 6 through January 2015. It is a collaborative effort between The Adoption Exchange, Adopt Colorado Kids and the Colorado Department of Human Services.
