Don’t Be Afraid Of The Big Bad Dentist

When you buy a t shirt from a store, you expect it to be of high quality. You expect that a certain amount of care has gone into the construction so as to prevent the garment from shrinking or falling apart. If however it does shrink, in most cases you can simply return it for a full refund and go on as normal. Fortunately an issue like this is easily solved and no one is particularly hurt.

But what happens when you pay for something like dental reconstructive surgery, fillings, root canals or cosmetic dentistry? According to survey results, people are less likely to do something about it.

Whether you choose to have cosmetic dentistry or are required to have dental surgery, you expect the procedures to be of high quality. You expect that a certain amount of care has gone into diagnosis and preparation so as to prevent infections, injuries or worse. However, if you are unhappy with the results, they turn out to be different from what you expected or you are injured as a result – “oh sorry, would you like a refund?” won’t make it better. In severe cases, your life can be changed forever.

The expert solicitors at The Dental Law Partnership specialise in helping victims of dental negligence get the compensation they deserve for their injuries,  they offer specialist advice and legal representation to those who have suffered due to below par or botched dental work.

In a survey undertaken by DLP, 2000 adults currently registered with dentists were asked about dental negligence and what action they would take should they fall victim to botched or below par surgery.
56% of all people asked said they would challenge the dentist if they received poor dental work, with 38% stating that they would complain to the surgery manager. For some people it would seem an apology or refund may be satisfaction enough - but for others “sorry” won’t cut it.

Even though legal advice regarding dental negligence is readily available, as little as 19% of people surveyed said they would pursue legal action – an unfortunate result considering the good a compensation claim can do. A dental negligence compensation claim can help you get the treatments you deserve and pay for any loss of income should you have had to take time off work due to illness.

Interestingly, fear played a major part in people’s decisions not to take further action, with nearly 16% saying that the fear of upsetting the dentist would stop them from complaining.

The results of the survey also showed that 39% would not take further action due to a lack of knowledge of what to do and as many as 23% also stated that their lack of understanding of exactly what had happened would stop them from pursuing the issue further.

The expert solicitors at The Dental Law partnership are urging those who feel they have suffered due to dental negligence to come forward. If you have had poor dental work, DLP have the expertise you need to successfully bring about a compensation claim. We can help you understand exactly what has gone wrong, identify signs of neglect and guide you through every aspect of your claim to ensure you receive the compensation and treatment you deserve.
