Business Community Takes Note as OSHA Announces Top 10 Violations of 2014

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH®) reminds workers and industry of the need to address health and safety hazards in the workplace.

Lansing, MI – WEBWIRE

The similar Top 10 lists, year after year, indicate that core health and safety programs should continue to be a priority emphasis for companies and organizations.

Last month, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) named their Top 10 violations of 2014 at the National Safety Council Congress and Expo.  OSHA publishes this annual list to alert employers about commonly cited standards so that steps can be taken to find and fix these recognized hazards.

The 2014 Top 10 List includes:

  • Fall Protection
  • Hazard Communication
  • Scaffolding
  • Respiratory Protection
  • Control of Hazardous Energy – Lockout/Tagout
  • Powered Industrial Trucks
  • Electrical – Wiring Methods
  • Ladders
  • Machine Guarding
  • Electrical - General

This 2014 list of most cited violations was very similar to the lists released the previous several years by OSHA.  “The similar Top 10 lists, year after year, indicate that core health and safety programs should continue to be a priority emphasis for companies and organizations,” said Tracy Parsons, CIH, Administrative Program Manager at ABIH.  “We strongly encourage companies to look to the expertise of Certified Industrial Hygienists to help identify workplace hazards to protect workers and to address these and other regulatory violations.  CIHs are trained to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control a wide range of chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic stressors.   Health risk analysis, hazard communications, work environments and industrial processes are all key components of the CIH certification program.  This comprehensive knowledge base can help companies keep their workers healthy and safe, while avoiding OSHA violations.”
