Award nominations were solicited online from retirement plan advisers, their employers and/or broker/dealers, and plan sponsors, as well as from working partners of the advisers, such as investment vendors, accountants, attorneys and pension administrators. Nominees were then asked to complete a form, providing various details about their practice. Advisers could also, for the first time, submit such information unsolicited, although not to be considered for the awards. The PLANSPONSOR Retirement Plan Adviser and Adviser Team of the Year awards are based on both qualitative and quantitative factors. The most successful lists are drawn solely from a smaller set of quantitative factors and information supplied by the advisers themselves. Due to the differences in evaluation factors, finalists for the PLANSPONSOR Retirement Plan Adviser and Adviser Team of the Year awards are not necessarily included on the “Top 100” listing. Neither Graystone Consulting nor its financial advisors pay a fee to Plan Sponsor / Plan Adviser in exchange for the rating.
