Ascension Parish soon will be home to a world-class technical training center, thanks to BASF’s support of River Parishes Community College (RPCC). BASF donated $100,000 to RPCC to support construction of an Advanced Technology Center on the school’s new campus in Burnside, Louisiana. The center will strengthen workforce development for Ascension Parish and the surrounding area.

BASF, as the signature chemical company partner of RPCC, will work closely with the college to design the new facility and develop job training programs for key chemical plant positions, such as process operators, supervisors, instrumentation and electrical technicians, and laboratory technicians. In addition, surplus equipment donated by BASF will be installed in a process equipment training area, which will allow RPCC instructors to simulate chemical plant operations and create more realistic training scenarios for students.

“BASF is joining forces with RPCC to provide highly-focused job training resources to meet the needs of Louisiana’s growing chemical industry,” said Tom Yura, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the BASF site in Geismar. “We look forward to working with River Parishes Community College to establish a state-of-the-art training center that will produce benefits for BASF, our communities and aspiring professionals in our industry.”

“Our students and our communities need to be prepared to meet the growing demand for skilled workers,” said Dale Doty, Ph.D., Chancellor of River Parishes Community College. “Our partnership with BASF will help us expand and enhance technical training programs, and ensure that local citizens have the skills required to get high-quality jobs, particularly in the chemical industry.”

The Advanced Technology Center is part of a statewide workforce-development initiative to build new training facilities at all community and technical colleges in the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. BASF’s donation helped RPCC reach its capital fundraising goal of $1.1 million, a requirement that enabled the college to receive an $8.1 million match in state funding. RPCC plans to break ground on the new facility this fall.

BASF has invested more than $350 million in Louisiana since 2009, translating into almost 100 new permanent jobs and more than 1,000 construction jobs. For more information about careers at BASF, visit www.basf.us/la .
