Bethesda, MD – WEBWIRE

The Children’s Inn at NIH, a home for families whose children are undergoing treatment at the National Institutes of Health raised $760,000 at its inaugural event, “An Evening for Hope” on Saturday, April 5th. More than 700 donors gathered at the Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner to generously contribute their financial support towards making a difference in the lives of seriously ill children and their families. The evening was capped off by a performance by Tony and Grammy-award winning performer, Jennifer Holliday.

The Children’s Inn is a nonprofit “Place Like Home” for families with seriously ill children participating in groundbreaking medical research at the National Institutes of  Health in Bethesda, MD. Families come from across the country and around the world to stay together at The Inn –free of charge –no matter how long they need to stay. The Inn gives kids a chance to be kids, takes their minds off their illness, while pushing the bounds of medical research.

Kristal Nemeroff, a young adult who first came to the NIH when she was only eight months old, kicked off the evening by singing The Star Spangled Banner. She is a school nurse and musician, who has been coming to The Inn since its inception as part of a research protocol to study brittle bone disease from infancy to adulthood. Eleven-year-old Dillon Papier’s parents also spoke aboutthe importance of  The Inn to their family—Dillon has a rare, genetic, neurogenerative disorder and visits the NIH several times a year to participate in a clinical trial through which his doctors are seeking a treatment that will slow the symptoms or prevent them from worsening.

“The outpouring of support surpassed our expectations,” said Robert Guerra, event chairman. “The money raised will make a difference in the lives of children and their families, as well as advancing medical research.”The Children’s Inn at NIH extends its gratitude to the many sponsors who helped to make the evening possible, including:
