Arriving as part of the BBC’s World War One Season, The Crimson Field takes audiences to the fields of Northern France for a romantic epic about a war unlike any other and the characters swept up within it.
This year marks the centenary of the start of The Great War and to commemorate the event, the broadcaster has planned a season of entertainment and startling documentaries about a conflict which divided the world and decimated a continent. In the all new six part drama, which began last Sunday evening, this story is told from the point of view of three volunteer nurses who leave the comforts of home to confront the horrors of war.
It all begins with a harrowing first episode which places the viewer at the centre of the action; and introduces all of the central characters. This includes Oona Chaplin’s Kitty Trevelyan, a brave and beautiful young nurse who refuses to play by the rules when it comes to saving the lives of young men fresh from the battlefield.
Chaplin is one of the primary reasons to make time for this important new show. As the name suggests, she is the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin and the great-granddaughter of Eugene O’Neill. After a supporting turn in The Hour and a recurring role on the wildly popular Game of Thrones, Chaplin takes centre stage in The Crimson Field and brings a free spirit and fierce energy to the role of Trevelyan.
