(SAN MATEO, CA) The San Mateo County Fair just announced that WAR, the popular band that combines Funk, Jazz, R&B and Rock n’ Roll, will return to perform at the 2014 San Mateo County Fair.

“This will be the second time that WAR will be joining the Fair’s entertainment lineup. Due to the popularity of their show in 2011, we are very happy to have them back,” said Chris Carpenter, Senior Vice President and General Manager for the San Mateo County Event Center.

WAR has sold more than 500 million albums worldwide. Lonnie Jordan, original lead singer, keyboardist and musical director presides over WAR’s political, historical and downright fun songbook, which includes: “Lowrider” on Grand Theft Auto San Andreas” or on classic vinyl.

In 1969 Eric Burdon and WAR recorded and released their first album entitled, “Eric Burdon Declares WAR” featuring the number one single, “Spill the Wine.” Following its release, Eric Burdon and WAR embarked on an extensive tour of Europe and the UK recognized by England’s New Musical Express (1969) as “The best live act I ever saw.”

On September 16, 1970 Jimi Hendrix, joined Eric Burdon and WAR for a jam session at the Famous Ronny Scotts Jazz Club. After Hendrix’s death, Eric Burdon, decided to leave the band and returned to Los Angeles where WAR continued their European tour without their former front man before returning to the states. After Burdon’s departure WAR’s career skyrocketed and in the early 1970s with the release of “Slipping into Darkness” and “Me and Baby Brother” represented their exhilarating sound and spoke to the tension that centered around inner cities. Then, in 1972 WAR released The World is a Ghetto. It’s second single, “The Cisco Kid,” shipped gold and the album attained the number one spot as Billboard magazine’s Album of the year.

WAR joins the expanding list of 2014 Fair entertainment acts, which includes: Air Supply, The Marshall Tucker Band, Super Diamond, Evolution – The Ultimate Tribute to Journey. All concerts are FREE with Fair admission ticket with seats subject to availability. Some concerts have limited Gold Circle Seating. Performance dates include: Air Supply, June 8th, Evolution – The Ultimate Tribute To Journey performs June 9th. WAR performs June 12th. Super Diamond performs June 13th.
