Action packed BBC crime drama Line of Duty returned last week to the screens for a breathless Series 2 opener. The reviews are in and it’s all great news for creator Jed Mercurio and his new look cast. Fans who are already gripped can pre-order their copies of the Line of Duty Series 2 DVD from the Acorn online store.

Line of Duty Series 2 is available on DVD from 24 March 2014, but is available to pre-order for a reduced special offer price right now.

In the high octane story of police corruption, Keeley Hawes joins Martin Compston and the rest of the Series One cast, as the new possibly-crooked copper under the spotlight. Unlike Lennie James’ idolised Tony Gates, her DI Denton is roundly disliked by her peers and the actress excelled in this slightly more sympathetic role.

The show as a whole was received with rapturous enthusiasm.

Serena Davies summed it up in her piece for The Telegraph, saying “the return of BBC Two’s crime drama Line of Duty did what it intended to do and pinned us to our seats with excitement”.

Writing online for DigitalSpy, Alex Fletcher explained that the second series is far from a pale imitation of the first. He said: “Any concerns about that were quickly extinguished in an opening episode that was brimming with tension, knocked you around the head with twists and kicked you up the bum for good measure for ever doubting it.”

Sarah Hughes in the Guardian thought that the series could even eclipse the first, if episode one was anything to go by. She wrote: “I had a few issues with the first season of Line of Duty. I’m a huge Mercurio fan but I couldn’t escape the sense that the story felt a little bit rushed.

“This tightly paced opener went some way towards addressing that. Surprisingly, for such an action-packed episode, we also learned a great deal about people’s backgrounds and motivations.”
