Solar America Solutions VP Charlie Slavik to Address ACA in Tampa

The conference runs from January 31 to February 5 at the Tampa Convention Center.

Mr. Slavik will be one of three speakers to address the assembled crowd at the 8 AM breakout session held on Saturday. That session is entitled, “Gas vs Solar: Evaluating the Efficiency of Two Hot Water Heating Technologies in the Correctional Setting”. The session deals with the real-life application of a solar thermal water heating system installed by the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) in September 2012. The IDOC contracted with Solar America Solutions to install 15 of their SunQuest 250 solar collection units.

Upon completion, the gas used by the cellblock with the SunQuest 250 system was compared with the gas used by a conventional system in an adjacent cellblock. The comparison clearly demonstrated the SunQuest 250 generated savings of 53% through July 2013. The IDOC has since contracted with Solar America Solutions for additional installations at other facilities.

The session will include an in depth look at the Indiana application as it relates to cost savings for space heat and hot water needs. It will also explore giving inmates the opportunity to learn a valuable trade by participating in assembling and installing the units on-site. Lastly, participants will also hear ideas on partnering with prison industries to create offender manufacturing jobs fabricating solar thermal collector frames for correctional installations.
