BLOOMFIELD, Conn. & SEOUL, South Korea - Global health service company Cigna and the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile devices, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., have signed a multi-year agreement to co-develop health and wellness related features built into Samsung’s S Health on Samsung’s major smart mobile devices.

The initial development is focused on delivering health-related tips and articles through the Samsung S Health Application, with an ultimate goal of connecting individuals with caregivers, doctors and hospitals to improve health and wellness globally.

“With this agreement, we are pioneering a new health service model of innovation by establishing a strategic alliance between global leaders in the mobile industry and the health industry,” said Won-Pyo Hong, President of Media Solution Center from Samsung.

“Cigna is committed to helping people improve their health, well-being and sense of security with fun and engaging mobile tools to make better health part of their everyday life,” said Benjamin Karsch, Cigna’s Head of Brand, Marketing Communications and Digital Marketing. “Samsung’s innovative products are a fun and engaging part of the lives of people in nearly 80 countries. By teaming up with the global leader in smart mobile devices, we are putting the power to embrace better health literally into the hands of millions of people around the world.”

S Health is a Samsung platform initiative that will collect and integrate health information for consumers from smartphones and personal health devices. The S Health app will provide easy to use features in a mobile dashboard to help make health improvement an engaging part of everyday life. Cigna will provide the content, experience and engines for valuable clinical insights.

Cigna content is incorporated into Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in select countries, including United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain beginning in October 2013. Over the next year, additional co-developed functions and features will find their way to Samsung’s mobile devices worldwide.
