WEBWIRE

Arup celebrated success at the British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards with two major wins.

Arup along with the ODA, Atkins, Aecom and BAM Nuttall won the Judges’ Special Award with the Olympic Park project, which provided the lifeblood for the London 2012 Games and regenerated the wider area for the subsequent benefit of local communities.

Competing against the very best regeneration projects in Britain, Arup, in conjunction with Patel Taylor, Wates Construction and Birmingham City Council, also took home the Regeneration Award with Eastside City Park. This is Birmingham’s first new park in 130 years that has doubled the amount of green space in the city centre.

The firm was highly commended in the Building Awards £3m-£50m category with the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre in Northern Ireland, and The Backstage Centre, which is a state-of-the-art training facility for live music and theatre events production in Purfleet.

Arup was also shortlisted for five further projects and two of its engineers – Richard Morgan and Simon Banfield – made the finals for the Leaders of Tomorrow Award category.

The British Construction Industry Awards are an established and coveted industry accolade recognising overall excellence in the delivery of building and civil engineering infrastructure projects. With a judging process like no other, these awards carry unrivalled gravitas and recognise excellence across a range of disciplines.
