Cascade MVS Develops New Electric Motor Analysis Technology

A post mortem examination of electric motors revealed premature wear and high vibration levels due to stator misalignment.

Stator misalignment is not a new problem but is much more prevalent than experts originally anticipated and is rarely diagnosed until the damage is already done. “A motor fault such as this can occur during manufacturing, installation or during the service life of the motor”, states Troy Broussard, President of Cascade MVS. “In this case we believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Companies can save a lot of money in maintenance and production costs by using our simple process to ensure their motors are properly aligned before and after installation”, Says Troy.

The process uses a laser measurement system to evaluate the motor frame, stator mountings, bearing housings and shaft alignment with a few simple measurements. The process is much faster and more accurate than taking manual measurements and allows for the data to be stored digitally for future comparison if needed.
