Mobistar offers faster surfing to all its customers

WEBWIRE

Brussels – Mobistar reconfirms its position as number 2 mobile operator on the Belgian telecommunications market, as shown by the most recent drive test conducted by the independent research agency Commsquare in all large cities as well as an increased indoor coverage across the country (84 % in 3G and 68 % in 3G+). Mobistar has also increased the download speed for all mobile data users so that they enjoy the 3G+ speed (up to 42 Mbps). In addition, Mobistar is still the sole Belgian operator to have the HD-Voice technology and will be making an expanded 4G test network available before the end of 2013.

Driven by the increasing demand for mobile Internet, Mobistar announced in February its ´SuperMobile 2013-2015´ investment programme, with which the company undertook, in addition to the planned investments in the 3G/4G network, to invest an extra 150 million euros in the coming 3 years in order to roll out its super-fast mobile data network.

The investments to improve coverage, reliability of the services and speed are already producing results:

• The roll-out of UMTS in the 900 MHz band increased the indoor coverage in 3G from 70 % to 84 % within a period of 9 months. This has significantly improved the mobile data experience for all customers both in and outside of the large cities.
• The most recent drive test by the independent research agency Commsquare demonstrates that Mobistar unquestionably remains the main challenger amongst the mobile operators in terms of network coverage in the large cities.
• Mobistar is the sole operator in Belgium to have the HD-Voice technology, which enables its customers to carry on crystal-clear conversations if they have an HD-Voice compatible 3G smartphone.
• The improvement of the network capacity has made it possible to increase the download speed. The maximum speed in 3G+ for downloading Internet pages, images and videos or for using Facebook now ranges up to 42 Mbps for both customers with prepaid cards and those with a subscription. The MVNO customers such as Colruyt Mobile, Telenet, etc. enjoy the same advantages as well.

Customers using the most recent smartphones can now - throughout Belgium and with their current rate formula - enjoy a better customer experience for mobile Internet through the increased 3G+ surfing speed and a better coverage both in and outside of cities. The speed can, however, be influenced by the number of users on the mobile data network.
