Symantec CEO to Keynote at Air Force Information Technology Conference

Experts Discuss Secure IM Systems, Endpoint Protection, and Continuity of Operations

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Aug. 8, 2006 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that John W. Thompson, Symantec’s chairman and chief executive officer, will deliver keynote remarks at the Air Force Information Technology Conference (AFITC), Aug. 14-17 in Montgomery, Ala. Thompson’s keynote is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 1 p.m. CT, on the campus of Auburn University Montgomery. Acknowledging this year’s AFITC theme of “dominating cyberspace,” Thompson will discuss crucial protection elements allowing defense and commercial organizations to drive innovation, field new technologies and capabilities with confidence, and execute changing missions safely in a digital world.

Complementing Thompson’s remarks, Symantec experts will also present in the following AFITC seminars:

* Ian Lowe, continuity systems lead for Symantec’s Air Force team, will discuss continuity-of-operations (COOP) management for defense agencies in a presentation titled “COOP: Building Resilient Data Centers.” The presentation will take place on Monday, Aug. 14, at 1:30 p.m. CT. Lowe will describe the evolution of COOP capabilities for organizations demanding assured access to critical applications and data during physical and cyber threat contingencies.

* Brian Foster, Symantec’s senior director of product management, will deliver a presentation on protecting mobile endpoint devices titled “Comply and Connect: Driving Network Capabilities and Security through Integrated Endpoint Management.” Foster’s presentation will take place on Monday, Aug. 14, at 2:30 p.m. CT. He will overview threats targeting desktop and portable devices at the client tier of the network and describe strategies for managing network access, configuration settings, and security scans to ensure devices operate safely and adhere to policies.

* Andrew Burton, senior product manager for Symantec’s Enterprise Message Management group, will lead a seminar on operating secure instant messaging networks. Burton’s presentation, titled “IM Secure: Enhancing Instant Messaging Protection and Compliance” will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 8 a.m. CT. In his presentation, Burton will describe threats to instant messaging (IM) communications, in addition to regulatory and policy compliance challenges, such as message archiving. Strategies for managing secure and compliant message traffic will be outlined for DOD enterprises requiring instant, anywhere communications.

* David McCulley, Symantec’s public sector principal systems engineer, will lead a seminar on IT asset management titled “Accurate IT Asset Accounting and Tracking.” The presentation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 2:30 p.m. CT. McCulley’s presentation will highlight strategies for putting in place comprehensive and centralized IT asset tracking programs. He will describe how continuous IT tracking affords defense administrators the ability to enhance vulnerability management, gain visibility into software license consumption, and anticipate resource costs by discovering connected devices, cataloging installed software, and mapping connected assets to agency users and requirements.
